Annual Meeting Announcements - Interesting woodblock commissioned Nosatsu Mutsumi Shusai, an organization dedicated to nosatsu, as an announcement for their meetings. Also known as senjafuda, nosatsu are small woodblock votive prayer slips designed to be pasted up at temples and shrines by visitors. Nosatsu became popular with travelers on pilgrimages during the Edo era, and are still used today. They also are prized as collectibles, with enthusiastic groups meeting to commission and trade designs. Each print credits the artist as Hamada Josen. There was a Hamada Josen active during the Meiji era, so the image behind the calligraphy may be based on an earlier design by him, but we are not sure. The blocks were carved by Shujiro Kuga and printed by Sekioka Senkei. An interesting example of a popular Japanese collectible, not often seen outside Japan.

In order to purchase from our Ultimate Clearance, you must purchase a minimum of $25 worth of prints. This means, that you can either buy Ultimate Clearance prints as a group or simply purchase a single Ultimate Clearance print as well as any other normally priced item from our listings.

All prints offered in our Ultimate Clearance are Japanese woodblock prints - either original or reprints (please see photos, reprints are obvious). All of our woodblock prints are printed from wood blocks produced by hand. When we offer these prints so inexpensively, we do not offer any description or condition report - we have to let our excellent photos do all the talking, so be sure to look carefully at the photos.

While you're shopping, keep in mind that some condition issues could simply be framed out, some could be easily repaired, and others just allow you to enjoy owning a 19th century original at a bargain price. Of course, many prints are in excellent condition, just needing to be cleared out.
