Yoritomo's Hunting Party on the Plain of Mount Fuji, 1843 - 1845

Comments - Fantastic depiction of Yoritomo's hunting party at the base of Mt. Fuji in 1193. A giant boar attacked the party and the brave Tadatsune killed the wild beast. Here Tadatsune clings to the back of the snarling animal with his short sword clenched between his teeth, its body pierced with arrows. Another warrior tumbles through the air above, tossed by the boar high into the air. Yoritomo watches on horseback from a hillside at upper left, wearing court robes and a tall yellow court cap. The hunt continues in the valley below with retainers driving deer, rabbits, and foxes toward a fenced enclosure. A great composition with Mt. Fuji rising majestically in the background. Terrific detail and action in this incredible image.
