Lady Suo, No. 40 - Lovely image of the beautiful Lady Suo no naishi encountering a Buddhist nun in the forest. Lady Suo was an 11th century poet whose work was included in the famous "Collection of One Hundred Poets." She kneels on the forest floor, her floral kimono spread out behind her, and looks up at the elderly nun, who rests her hands on a walking stick. A beautiful landscape setting with a waterfall in the background and the sky darkening as evening falls. The inset above shows Lady Suo praying before a statue of Kannon, the Buddhist Goddess of Compassion. Nice embossed detail on the white kimono.
