Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play Oyobanu ude hidari no horimono" at the Ichimura Theater, a tale about the sculptor Hidari Jingoro. After drinking sake one night, Jingoro was amazed to find his sculpture of a beauty coming to life before his eyes. He stumbles backwards in surprise, slapping his forehead with his hand. He stares in astonishment at the courtesan standing before him, who frowns slightly as she returns his gaze. She wears a beautiful red tied-dyed outer robe with a butterfly design, bordered with blossoms. Her hair is pulled back into a sleek bow-shaped bun adorned with combs and hairpins, a single lock of bangs falling to the side of her face. A tray of food rests on the floor behind the artist, and curtains hang in the doorway. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Kodanji IV and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Oyama, the spirit of the doll. Nice expressive figures, with an attractively detailed interior setting.
