Kataoka Gado II as Gofukuya Jubei, 1853

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Kataoka Gado II as Jubei, who runs a gofukuya, a shop selling silk fabric and kimono. Here, he pauses for a break beneath a pine tree while traveling. He holds a pipe in one hand and a tobacco case and pipe case in the other, looking over his shoulder with a worried expression. Behind him, a laborer carries a yoke with a wooden chest with two hats atop it. Mt. Fuji rises in the distance. A handsome design with an attractive setting.
