Bando Shinsui (Bando Hikosaburo V) as Kirare Yosaburo, 1869

Comments - Fantastic okubi-e or large head kabuki portrait of Bando Shinsui (Bando Hikosaburo V) as Kirare (Scarface) Yosaburo, a dissolute young man who was captured during a tryst with a gang boss's mistress and slashed all over. Reduced to a life of petty crime, Yosaburo is accidentally reunited with Otomi when he and his partner, Yasu the Bat, attempt to extort her. Here, he looks over his shoulder with an angry frown, his brows furrowed, scars visible on his face and chest. He wears a blue kimono with a fine crosshatch pattern, a dotted towel draped around his neck, the loose whisps of hair framing his face giving him a disheveled appearance. A great expressive figure, nicely detailed.
