Kawase's Wife Holding a Dagger, 1888 - Masterful portrait of the lovely wife of Kawase, a samurai in the Omi district who was involved in the rebellion at the end of the shogunate era, from a series of monthly inserts done for the Yamato Shimbun newspaper in 1887-1888. Grieving over the loss of her husband, Madame Kawase killed herself. Her eyes lowered and a sorrowful expression on her face, she holds the knife in her hand with which she will commit suicide. Includes embossing on the white kimono collar. A moving image.

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Light horizontal and vertical folds. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight creasing. Please see photos for details.
