A Comparison of Temperaments - "Yoshitoshi's rarely seen comic series "A Comparison of Temperaments" depicts the evils of drinking as expressed by the temperaments of different individuals. This interesting and unusual series features people from all walks of life, ranging from a prostitute to a newspaper reporter and a nobleman. Many figures are caricatured, shown in a setting suggested by a few household objects, especially cups and bottles of sake. Even the title cartouche takes the shape of a sake bottle. According to the recent book "Yoshitoshi: Masterpieces from the Ed Freis Collection," prints are known with dates of 1882, 1883, and 1885. Roger Keyes lists the series as number 470. A great choice for a Yoshitoshi collector.
