Beauty in a Checked Coat, circa 1834 - 1835 - Charming portrait of a beauty in a checked coat, grinning happily as she looks ahead. She wears a striped blue kimono edged with green and lined with a red pineapple print, and tall geta clogs. A circular inset in the form of a toshidama seal, a symbol of good fortune used by artists of the Utagawa school, contains a starfish and shell in aizuri-e or all blue. Confetti-like dots are scattered across the background. An attractive design. The first time we've seen a subject from this rare Kuniyoshi series.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Small loss at edge, a couple holes, repaired. A few creases, a couple small spots on face. Please see photos for details.
