Lucky God Fukurokuju, 1844 - 1847 - Attractive design from a Toyokuni III series pairing children with Japan's beloved Seven Lucky Gods. Here, a beauty reads a long letter while a young boy beside her plays with an origami crane, a bird associated with the featured god, Fukurokuju. The beauty smiles as she looks intently at the message, her plaid kimono and reversible obi trailing onto the floor around her. A circular inset above depicts Fukurokuju, the god of wealth, happiness, and longevity, clutching a scroll, his elongated forehead covered with a black hood. A rarely seen series.
