Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Sawamura Chojuro V as the nobleman Munesada in the play "Tsumoru Koi Yuki no Seki no To" at the Kawarazaki Theater. He sits on a cushion leaning against a black lacquer armrest, frowning unhappily. He wears an elegant coat with a pleated collar, patterned with tiny gourds, over a geometric print kimono, his hair pulled back into a thick topknot tied with cord. Piles of firewood are stacked on the ground in front of him, with an axe resting atop the brush. Attractively colored with a nicely detailed setting.
