Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Obo Kichizo, 1857

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as the ronin Obo Kichisa in the play "Ami Moyo Toro no Kiku Kiri" at the Ichimura Theater. He emerges from a thicket of foliage, frowning as he looks over his shoulder. His kimono is tucked up at the back for easier movement, his two swords at his side. Nicely detailed with soft bokashi shading on the night sky.
