Rough Waves - Striking Meiji era woodblock of rough waves based on an early 18th century screen by the famous painter Ogata Korin, who was known for his exceptional nature images. The waves curl and foam with tendrils curling over, seeming almost alive, with multiple outlines and shading to add a sense of depth and drama. The grid on the background simulates the aged appearance of the gold leaf on the original screen, rendered in a subtle dark metallic gold pigment. A terrific design based on this beautiful work. The original screen in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Artist - Meiji era artist (after Ogata Korin 1658 -1716)

Image Size - 8 1/2" x 9 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight curling. Please see photos for details.
