Nisaburo Ito - Born in Kyoto in 1910, shin-hanga artist Nisaburo Ito created many woodblock prints of flowers, landscapes, and noted shrines and temples around his hometown. Some of his designs reflect his study of nihonga or traditional Japanese painting, while others take on a more modern expression. His floral and nature subjects are beautifully rendered with wonderful color and attention to detail. His attractive prints are a lovely choice to collect or display.
Comments - Lovely portrait of a geisha looking into the mirror of a makeup compact as she delicately adjusts a floral hairpin, the figure set against a shimmering mica background. She wears a pale pink kimono patterned with blossoms and maple over an under robe with an intricate geometric design on the collar. The first time we've seen this beautiful and rare Shinsui design.
