Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of the yakko or footman Yodohira leaning forward aggressively as he confronts the priest Seigen in the play from the play "Koigoromo Karigane-zome," a tale about Seigen's love for the Princess Sakura, which leads to tragedy. Seigen sits on the floor at right, glaring at his visitor, his blue face a sign of his impending death and blood running from his mouth. A dead pheasant rests on the floor nearby. The shoji panel behind him is tattered and torn, and a blossoming cherry frames the softly shaded night sky. From left, the actors are Arashi Rikan III and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII. A great scene from this popular drama.
