Comments - Fantastic kabuki triptych depicting the famous night attack of the Soga Brothers at the Shogun Yoritomo's hunting camp at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Soga Juro stands in the center holding a sword and a flaming torch as his lover, the beauty Shosho, prepares to let the men into Lord Suketsune's sleeping quarters to avenge the murder of their father. The beauty looks back at him with a slight smile, a lantern in her outstretched hand. Wearing his trademark butterfly kimono at left, Soga Goro grimaces angrily, his loose hair flowing over his shoulders as he holds his torch high above his head. Behind them, orange smoke rises from the bonfires inside the tent walls of the encampment, with Mt. Fuji in gray on the horizon. A great design with large colorful figures and fine detail in the hair, from a play at the Kabukiza or Kabuki Theater in Tokyo.
