Original Hayakawa Shozan (1850 - 1892) Japanese Woodblock Print
Imperialism in Ancient and Modern Times at a Glance

Comments - Interesting group portrait of Imperial heroes from ancient and modern times. Interestingly, the red text box next to each figure does not contain the person's name, but lists a shrine or palace, such as Higashi-Fushimi Shrine and Arisugawa Palace. Some of the men where traditional formal attire, while others are dressed in Western fashions or military uniforms. A few samurai wear armor. Nice expressive figures, detailed with burnishing on the black kimono and jackets, and embossing on the white pants at left.

Artist - Hayakawa Shozan (1850 - 1892)

Image Size - 14" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown
