Original Hiroshige II (1826 - 1869) Japanese Woodblock Print
Fisherwomen, 1864

Comments - Attractive image of fisherwomen at the shore. The beauty at right carries a basket of fish under her arm, one of the fishes ready to slip into the tide pool below, which is filled with fish, an octopus, a lobster, and an abalone. A small boy behind her leaps on one foot to avoid a fish wriggling on the ground, while another woman at left smiles as she looks up, combing her wet hair. A flowering cherry tree covered with blossoms frames a view of the ocean beyond. A charming subject with wonderful detail and fine shading in the water and sky.

Artist - Hiroshige II (1826 - 1869)
