Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Cooling Off in the Garden, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Charming scene of a beauty enjoying an evening stroll through a garden. She smiles as she looks up, a fan in one hand as she lifts the edges of her robe. Her kimono is patterned with irises, with an intricate pattern on the blue and white lining and red and white under robe. Grasses and blossoms grow along the edge of the water behind her, with a stone lantern at right and willows in the distance, the silhouettes of trees in dark gray against the night sky. An attractive design, nicely detailed and shaded.
