Courtesans Relaxing, 1857

Comments - Charming scene of courtesans relaxing in their leisure time. At left, a beauty styles the hair of a young girl while an attendant fixes her own hairstyle. At bottom center, a beauty in a blue and white cotton kimono trims her nails while a kamuro or child apprentice hands a pipe to the hairstylist. At lower left, a kettle sits over the glowing coals of a hibachi, while mirrors on black lacquer stands can be seen above. An interesting subject with a nice detail in the interior setting and furnishings.
