Comments - Fantastic depiction from the historical epic "The Taiheiki" of the heroic Kato Masakiyo dispatching one of a group of assassins lying in wait to cut down his master, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Having forced his enemy to the ground, he kneels atop him, one arm across his neck as he stretches out a length of cord to bind him. The attacker grimace angrily, biting his lower lip, his eyes bulging. In the distance at right, fighting continues during the Battle of Amagasaki. An incredible design with large expressive figures dominating the composition and wonderful detail in the armor and weapons. A great subject for a collector interested in samurai. Only the second time we've seen this design.
