Daiichi (No. 1), 1852 - Charming scene from the "Tale of Genji" of a nobleman sitting on a cushion on the floor, reclining against a large rectangular pillow, a worried expression on his face as he looks at the young prince bowing to him at left. The boy looks up with a happy smile, his kimono patterned with Genji symbols. The beauty next to him grins, while the matron at right seems dismayed. The room opens onto a garden framed by blossoming cherry trees. A handsome design with wonderful detail in the elegant palace setting, and faint embossing on the nobleman's yellow kimono.
