Prince Genji and Beauties at a Country House, 1868

Comments - Charming scene of Prince Genji and beauties at a country house. The young nobleman sits on a cushion before a round window at right, grinning happily with a small cup of sake in one hand and a folding fan in the other. A tray on the floor holds a platter of sushi and a basin of water with cups floating in it. In the center, a beauty waves a greeting to a woman approaching through the garden. Stepping stones lead to a small thatched roof room, and blossoming cherry trees frame a view of the water beyond. An attractive spring design with wonderful detail in the setting.
