Comments - Attractive view of visitors strolling about the grounds of Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, which commemorates those who died in service to Japan starting with the Boshin War of 1868 - 1869. Several people stop to admire the sculpture of Omura Masujiro, considered the founder of the modern Japanese Army, which was installed in 1893 as the first Western-style statue in Japan. At bottom center, a man wears a top hat and long black coat, standing beside woman wearing a fringed shawl over a kimono. At far right, a boy in a sailor suit and striped red stockings walks alongside his father. Blossoming cherry trees add color to the park. The first time we've seen this handsome design.
