Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Kinoene Soga Daikokubashira" with the yakko or footman Washizu no Shimobe Tadashichi hiding behind a tree at left, frowning with worry as he eavesdrops on a young couple. In the center, Shiranui Daijin, who is actually the Princess Wakana in disguise, looks up with a slight smile as he holds the end of a beauty's red tie-dyed obi. The beauty Hananomura Chigusa is in fact Shusaku, and she tilts her head with a coy smile as she pats the ribbons in her hair. Fields spread out into the distance across the plains below beneath the night sky. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Kobunji I (formerly Tsurusuke), Sawamura Tanosuke III, and Nakamura Shikan IV. A handsome design with an attractive natural setting.
