Nakamura Shikan IV as Jinriki Tamigoro, 1867

Comments - Dramatic kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as the commoner Jinriki Tamigoro holding a gun to his stomach. He grips the weapon with both hands, his mouth open as he grimaces angrily. The sleeves of his blue kimono with a bold rope pattern are pushed down to the waist, revealing a blue under robe with stylized birds in flight, his disheveled hair sticking out around his face and falling over his shoulders. Below, several paper lanterns on poles converge on Tamigoro, while a full moon glows in the night sky. A terrific scene from the play "Mure Kiyotaki Hiiki no Seiriki."

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight wrinkling. Please see photos for details.
