Nakamura Shikan IV as Ishikawa Goemon, 1859

Comments - Terrific kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as the legendary robber Ishikawa Goemon, grimacing angrily as he throws his hand open before him. He wears a white kimono with a beautiful embossed geometric pattern over a suit of armor. His short hair sticks up atop his head, his longer hair pulled back into a thick ponytail. A large wicker basket or trunk tied over his shoulders conceals his father-in-law, and the rod extending upwards from it allows the character to fly on stage. A great expressive figure, detailed with a subtle burnished pattern on the black kimono.

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 3/8"
