Celebration of the Thirtieth Anniversary of the Transfer of the Capital to Tokyo, 1897 - Handsome five-panel scene of a festival procession in 1897 celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the transfer of the capital to Tokyo. A group of beauties dressed in colorful kimono carrying umbrellas leads the way, followed by an elegant palanquin. Lion dancers are next, dressed in identical costumes of purple diamond print kimono tucked into yellow and green plaid pants. The young boys are followed by men wearing short blue and white robes over black pants. All of them have straw hats decorated with large red peony blossoms. In the background, a group of yakko or footmen in short black kimono toss two fringed standards back and forth while other porters carry large chests. A lively scene with wonderful detail.
