View of Nihonbashi Tori 1-chome - Bustling summer scene of the busy main street in Edo, just south of the Nihonbashi Bridge. Women dressed in finely-colored kimono take shade below their parasols, while in the center, a group of Sumiyoshi dancers dressed in matching blue and white kimono share an extra-large tiered umbrella. A street musician known as an onna-dayu follows behind them, playing a shamisen. At right, a man takes a bite of a tiny yellow melon sold by a street vendor, while a delivery man carries a tray stacked with boxes of noodles. A lively scene with wonderful detail and rich color.
