Scene from Kinpeibai Soga no Tamamono, 1860

Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Kinpeibai Soga no Tamamono" at the Nakamura Theater. In the center, Kitazawa rushes forward carrying a bottle of sake, grinning wildly. At right, Oren, the wife of Taketaro, relaxes against a hibachi, taking a toothpick from her mouth as she watches Kitzawa with an amused smiled. Nishikadoya Keijuro sits beside her, looking up with a worried frown. A blossoming plum tree decorates the folding screen behind the couple, and at upper left, a kettle warms on a hibachi next to shelves of teacups. The actors include Nakamura Tsuruzu I as the woman, Maitsuya Oshiho, Nakamura Fukusuke I as Kitazawa, Kataoka Nizaemon VIII as Keijuro, and Onoe Kikugoro IV as Oren. Nice expressive figures in an attractive setting.
