Original Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauties at Asakusa, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Handsome scene of two beauties at Asakusa pausing before a display of huge paper lanterns with portraits of kabuki actors on them. The woman at left smiles as she looks back over her shoulder, a folding fan in her extended fan. Her companion holds her sleeve to her chin with a somewhat surprised expression. A blue and white cloth is tied around the shoulders of her striped kimono, a roll of tissues and pocketbook tucked inside the front. An interesting and unusual design, detailed with red orange pigment on the lanterns that has oxidized to a dark tone.
