The Great Battle of Kawanakjima

Comments - Terrific illustration from the Battle of Kawanakajima between the forces of Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin showing Kenshin and his retainers on a wooden lookout tower, surveying the enemy's troops across the river in the distance. The general sits on a wooden stool, directing with his fan, a fierce expression on his face. His men shade their eyes as they look at the fortress across the valley, plumes of smoke rising from the massive complex. A row of banners and standards stretches out alongside the shore. An incredible view, with rows of craggy mountains along the horizon partially obscured by drifting clouds. A wonderful composition with a great panoramic view.
