Series; Stories of a Hundred Heroes of High Renown, 1843 - 1844

(Soga) Goro Tokimune, 1843 - 1844 - Handsome portrait of Soga Goro Tokimune, the younger of the two famous Soga brothers. Their father was killed by the nobleman Suketsune when they were young boys, and they vowed to avenge his death when they grew up. Here, Goro leans lunges ahead with a determined expression, biting his lower lip and gripping his sword, his robes fluttering behind him with his movement. His kimono features his trademark butterflies, a symbol of his impetuousness. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and kimono lining. The first time we've offered this Kuniyoshi design.
