Moon: Bando Mitsugoro III in Ilchi-no-Tani Futaba Gunki, 1820 - Interesting kabuki portrait of Bando Mitsugoro III as a commoner in "Ichi-no-Tani Futaba Gunki" at the Nakamura Theater. He kneels atop a large wooden pestle, a mortar in his hand, grimacing angrily as he looks up, his other hand placed beneath his elbow. He wears a short green robe patterned with splashing waves and a red tie-dyed loincloth, a white sash tied around his head. The title cartouche at upper left takes the form of a full moon with grasses behind it. A nice expressive figure, detailed with soft shading on the background.
