Daisan (Number 3), 1853 - Charming scene of a beauty and a young boy on a bridge connecting rooms of a palace. The youth talks excitedly to the woman as she looks down with a distracted expression. Her blue kimono features morning glories in red and blue. Prince Genji sits on a cushion at left, a courtier kneeling before him. The alcove behind him holds a hanging scroll and a vase of blossoming irises, which also grow in the water along the edges of the walkway. A lantern hangs at upper right, its streamers adorned with flowers fluttering in the evening breeze. Lovely architectural detail in the setting, with soft shading on the water and night sky.
