Comments - Charming scene of a young prince meeting with a noblewoman. The boy bows respectfully in the center, smiling as he looks up at the beauty, who sits on a platform at upper left, wearing formal court robes. A table in the center holds a miniature Mt. Fuji at the edge of the water, along with a crane and a turtle, both auspicious animals, and a feather robe, a reference to a famous Noh play "The Feather Robe," a tale about a Tennin, a heavenly Buddhist spirit, who loses her feather robe which allows her to fly. Other women kneel around the room, watching with happy smiles. A folding screen decorated with pine, plum, and bamboo, the "Three Friends of Winter," runs across the back. The first time we've seen this nicely detailed design.
