Series; Eight Dog Heroes of Satomi
Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Inukawa Shosuke Yoshito and Ichimura Uzaemon XIII as Inuta Kobungo Yasuyori, circa 1850 - Terrific depiction of two of the famous "Eight Dog Heroes of Satomi," eight samurai who were the result of a mystical union between Princess Fuse and a dog. The warriors were raised separately and never learned of their each other's existence until they met by accident as adults. At left, Inukawa Shosuke Yoshito looks over his shoulder with a worried frown, holding a standard in one hand. His black outer robe patterned with yellow gourds has been pushed down to the waist, revealing a tie-dyed kimono over armor. At right, Inuta Kobungo Yasuyori looks up with a tight-lipped frown as he steps atop the neck of a fallen policeman gripping an iron truncheon. He holds a bow over his shoulder, his other hand resting on the hilt of his sword. His kimono and under robe are both detailed with embossed lines on the white areas. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Kodanji IV and Ichimura Uzaemon XIII. Stone steps fill the background. A handsome design, nicely detailed.
