Mayudama by Tatsumi Shimura (1907 - 1980)

Original Tatsumi Shimura (1907 - 1980) Japanese Woodblock Print
Mayudama

Comments - Lovely portrait of a beauty carrying a mayudama over her shoulder, a branch decorated with small balls to bring good fortune in the New Year, a custom that dates back to the Edo era. She looks to the side pensively, lost in thought, wearing a light gray kimono over a black robe with a plum blossom pattern. Ribbons, a comb, and a floral ornament adorn her hair. The first time we've seen this attractive, large format design.
