Comments - Handsome triptych depicting a scene from Act 1 of the classic play "Kanadehon Chushingura." Lord Hangan's wife, the lovely Lady Kaoyo, has arrived Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine to identify a fallen samurai's helmet. She kneels at left, holding the helmet in her outstretched hands, a roll of tissues caught between her teeth. Her husband stands behind her dressed in a yellow robe. At right, the evil Lord Moronao, wearing a voluminous black robe and court cap, scowls up at Lord Wakasanosuke in the center, dressed in blue, who has seen him make advances toward the happily married Lady Kaoyo. A handsome design with lively color and large figures, nicely detailed with burnishing in the black robe and burnished patterns in the black court caps.
