Hizen, Flowers of Saga, Cat Monster of the Inner Garden, No. 15 - Interesting scene from the famous legend of the Cat Monster of Saga. Here the evil Nabeshima Naoshige threatens the mother of Ryuzoji Matahichiro with a sword near a verandah opening onto the inner garden of Saga Castle. A wind sweeps across the scene, sending cherry petals fluttering through the air, as Naoshige turns to look over his shoulder. After the struggle, Naoshige took control of the castle and the Ryuzoji family domain. The inset above shows the Ryuzoji's pet cat, named Tama, which became a monster to avenge the family. A handsome depiction of this famous tale, with a beautiful burnished geometric pattern in the black robe.
