Flowers, 1854 - Lovely view of a courtesan and other women strolling through the Yoshiwara at night. The courtesan is accompanied by two young kamuro or child apprentices, all three wearing matching red kimono patterned with the takaramono or "precious things," including a magic hat, a magic straw raincoat, and a mallet. At far left, a servant carries a red lacquer tray on his shoulder holding dishes of food, a towel in hand. At far right, buckets of water for fighting fires are stacked atop a larger tub of water. In the foreground, blossoming cherry trees and yellow flowering shrubs fill a garden enclosed by a low fence. A charming design with wonderful detail.
