Comments - Fascinating Toyokuni III triptych of Prince Genji and a party of beauties watching ukai or cormorant fishing from a spacious pleasure boat. By the light of fires burning in metal baskets, the fisherman watch the tethered birds diving for their catch, pulling them back on board to remove the fish. In the center, a beauty gestures excitedly toward the fisherman while the young nobleman rests on a cushion at right, surrounded by lovely women. At left, a beauty carries in a bottle of sake in a lacquer stand. A terrific depiction of an age-old form of fishing, with attractive detail, and soft bokashi shading in the water and sky.
