Comments - Terrific scene of Prince Genji crossing a river, traveling in an elegant palanquin carried by porters. The young nobleman looks out the window, smiling at some of the women accompanying him. Several of them ride on the shoulders of laborers, clinging to their heads as they grip the beauties by the ankles. At right, two women ride on a platform, holding hands and chatting as the porters wade through the waist-deep water. Other travelers can be seen making their way across the river in the background, with the snow-capped peak of Mt. Fuji rising at right. Great expressive faces and attractive color in this interesting subject.
