Comments - Terrific image of the infamous bandit Kumasaka Chohan and his gang of thieves gathered beneath an enormous pine tree that served as their lookout. In the center, Chohan sits beneath the tree wearing a black robe over his armor as one of his men serves him an enormous red lacquer cup of sake, a meal set out on a low table before him. At top center, a gang member scans the horizon from his perch atop a branch, another man climbing the trunk below. At lower right, a man in a fur vest talks angrily as they plot to rob the inn at Akasaka post station, the rogues around him gripping a wide variety of weapon, including a huge ax, an oversized wooden mallet, a saw, and a hoe. A great design with the tree stretching across the image to create a dramatic setting.
