Comments - Attractive double portrait of Bando Shuka I and Ichimura Takenojo V in the kabuki play "Kenbutsuemon." The samurai at left holds a folding fan decorated with an iris behind his head as he looks down at his companion, who grins back at him. He wears a striped vest over a plaid kimono tucked into blue pants covered with cress, a cap tied beneath his chin with a thick red cord. A handsome design from an untitled kabuki series featuring bamboo in silhouette in the background and various flowers framing the text block at upper right.
