Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the play "Koi zumo yawaragi Soga" of the otokodate or street knight Yokichi and the sumo wrestler Shirafuji Genta encountering each other at a tea stand. In the center, Yokichi looks up with a strange smile as he holds a cloth-wrapped object in his hand. At right, Genta stares at Yokichi with a worried frown, dressed in a wisteria print kimono over a red under robe, a drawstring purse in one hand. At left, the beauty Kohina eyes the package in Yokichi's hand with a rather crazed grin. Lanterns with writing on them hang above the benches, with a low bamboo fence enclosing a blossoming plum tree. From left, the actors are Iwai Shijaku, I Ichimura Uzaemon XII, and Nakamura Utaemon IV. Nice expressive figures in an attractive setting.
