Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.
Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Hanaogi of the Ogiya - Beautiful Utamaro portrait of the courtesan Hanaogi of the Ogiya preparing to write a letter, looking dreamily at a roll of paper with a brush in hand. The inset at upper right features a rebus or picture puzzle that sounds like her name. An attractive design, detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar and the end of the roll of paper.
