Comments - Fantastic scene from the kabuki play "Onnagori goshiki no Hanakago" of a samurai confronting a demon standing atop a rocky outcropping, leaning forward as she clutches her neck as if choking, her face turning blue as a sign of her impending death. Her hair falls wildly over the edge of the cliff in a dramatic curve, knocking a man onto his back. At left, a samurai leans forward with an angry frown, holding his sword at his side, waiting to strike at the witch. He wears a black outer kimono patterned with maple leaves over a red under robe, his thick hair pulled into a bushy topknot. From left, the actors are Seki Sanjuro III and Nakamura Utaemon IV. A great supernatural design.
