Brick and Stone Merchant Buildings at Kyobashi Shinbashi - Terrific view of the bustling Ginza in Tokyo, the street lined with modern brick stores and buildings. Carriages of foreigners pass rickshaws and pedestrians along the roadway, the blossoming cherry trees on either side adding a note of color. At upper left, people can be seen on the verandah of an upper story, watching the scene below with interest. White smoke drifts across the red sky along the horizon. A wonderfully detailed image highlighting the rapid modernization taking place during the Meiji era.
