Wind, 1847 - 1852 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Wind, 1847 - 1852

Series; Birds and Flowers, Wind and Moon

Wind, 1847 - 1852 - Handsome scene depicting Mitsuuji, the Rustic or Country Genji, in an elegant interior. A beauty kneels at left, offering him a fancy lacquer box in her outstretched hand. He seems pleased with the gift, smiling down at his companion. A young girl kneels behind him holding his sword upright, and another beauty peers at him from around a sliding screen panel at left. Dressed in a pink kimono bordered with clematis, she watches shyly from the verandah, the panel tilting backwards slightly onto her. At right, a woman struggles to catch a reed blind flying in the wind, as curtains flutter in the breeze above her head. A charming design with autumn grasses and blossoms visible in the garden outside, and a maple tree on the sliding panels lining the back of the room.
